buffalo for the broken heart

1) O'brians writing is greatly connected to nature, in this story he goes into depth about the environment that he lived in, he is very in tuned with the environment and knew what he was doing with the land that he had to raise his heard. he also took on a role of a minor environmentalist, because of his intuition, and his preservation of his land to better his herd.

2) i feel that O'brian relates to his environment by connecting the reader with place, i feel that in this book he does a great job with distracting the reader from reality and furthers him or her into his world of farming.

3) my suggestion is that as a reader at times he seemed hypocritical, he at times came across that way when it came to him criticizing other farmers he always wanted to do things his way and no others he passed on the idea to me that he felt as though he was always right.

wilderness experiences

living in Jamaica i grew up on the country side, i lived in the hills of Jamaica surrounded but sugar cane coconut trees orange mango any type of fruit you can imagine i was surrounded by, this is the type of wilderness i loved. a place where to go on adventures you would have to chop your way threw the bushes with a machete and could take a break and enjoy the lush fruits that could be picked along the way. these are my fondest memories of being in nature and enduring its elements.

LOOT

I chose to relate on Patricia Smith's poem Loot from her book Blood Dazzler

what are the major themes in this piece? The major theme that is the center of this particular poem is the looting that went on during and after the initial effect of the Katrina hurricane that flooded New Orleans. In this poem the author paints a descriptive picture of what the aftermath was like. In reading this poem I was reminded to seeing clips of citizens looting local malls and stores. i remember in particular a family with a boat loading up clothing food practically anything that would fit in their small boat, but in reading this poem i feel almost as though i am personally experiencing these events.

I think that Patricia Smith in writing this poem felt as though these citizens partaking in this looting act were surviving, but in the eyes of others i feel that they were viewed as barbarian scavengers. although these citizens were partaking in a illegal act personally I do not object, especial how the aftermath of Katrina was handled I feel they were justified in there doings.

50 Word Journal

Seeing any picture of Bob Marley instantly reminds me of Jamaica. this picture particularly reminds me of marketplaces that lace the streets of Jamaica, seeing this picture reminds me of the countless tee shirts towels bandannas and other memorabilia that would be sold at these markets. this picture in particular is famous not only because of Bobs face but also the colors Red Yellow and Red the represent the Rastafarian culture.

Seeing Deer in the wild instantly remind me of my Uncle Joel. me and my uncle Joel would go out every march and go hunting for buck. the countless hours spent out in natures elements just me and him left me with fond memories of him. Simply seeing nature in general remind me of these moments but even further the sight of a wild buck.

Whenever i see a picture that relates anything to hockey i am reminded of home, and being the one growing up that never could play the sport with any type of skill, and truthfully never liked the sport not being able to skate, and not having the hand eye coordination often left me last to be picked in this particular sport. Canada is often considered the homeland of hockey this snapshot represents just that, hockey with the Canadian maple leaf in the background

map assighnment

In this blog we are given the opportunity to reflect on a place that we lived by relating it to a map. i choose a map of Jamaica, a place that i lived for 2 years before returning to Canada. just visual looking at the map of Jamaica brings back many memories of numerous family members in almost all areas on the map. this map is detailed but still misses small parish's that are in Jamaica such as fellowship hall, st. Elizabeth, small areas like this that are areas that my family originated but younger generations have migrated from.

Jamaician visual representation.

In this blog we were instructed to chose a image of a place that we once lived. i chose this picture of Bob Marley and the beautiful coastline of Jamaica. When talking about Jamaica there are often two very different stereotypes that come to mind, one being a impoverished nation with slums overrun by the use of marijuana and political rebellion, or comes to mind is the beautiful scenery that attracts many tourist to this destination. in this picture as a citizen of this country i see the clash of both visions. the beauty of the island in witch i call home, and i see the face of the island. representing the constant fight for freedom, but also representing the marijuana use in the most religious beliefs.
