I chose to relate on Patricia Smith's poem Loot from her book Blood Dazzler
what are the major themes in this piece? The major theme that is the center of this particular poem is the looting that went on during and after the initial effect of the Katrina hurricane that flooded New Orleans. In this poem the author paints a descriptive picture of what the aftermath was like. In reading this poem I was reminded to seeing clips of citizens looting local malls and stores. i remember in particular a family with a boat loading up clothing food practically anything that would fit in their small boat, but in reading this poem i feel almost as though i am personally experiencing these events.
I think that Patricia Smith in writing this poem felt as though these citizens partaking in this looting act were surviving, but in the eyes of others i feel that they were viewed as barbarian scavengers. although these citizens were partaking in a illegal act personally I do not object, especial how the aftermath of Katrina was handled I feel they were justified in there doings.
